Teaching Change Report

As part of a Brown University course on social entrepreneurship, I worked with two other students to interview Ashoka U Change Leaders (university-based social entrepreneurship advocates), and then created this report on our findings about their experiences. The complementary document, Spotlight on Ashoka U Mexico, highlights the unique opportunities and challenges of Mexican campuses in particular.

All three of us wrote and edited the reports, but I created all of the design. My goal was to create a look that was both professional and elegant, and evoked the sense of passion and creativity we were highlighting in the Change Leaders. I wanted the style to be cohesive with other Ashoka U documents, but not identical as it was a collaboration. The color scheme and font reflect that of Ashoka U. I created a visual system of quote styling to create a sense of conversation, and to differentiate the words of Change Leaders themselves from the text of our own analysis. I also included a page of fun infographics and simple design elements, like silhouettes, throughout to complement and embolden the stories we’re telling.

One of the interviewees, Violeta Sandoval of Tec de Monterrey, was having trouble getting administrative buy-in from her university to attend an Ashoka U Conference and have a chance to engage with the Change Leader community in person. She attributes their decision to support her to this document and its ability to legitimize her role within a larger community and movement.
